These boxes show lists of activities drawn from various auspices on the page.
The listings are as much suggestive as they are literal, and should be read with a sense of responsiveness and with some imagination as to their meaning in specific circumstances.
| • | When activities are listed more than once in one of the boxes, the auspice is indicated by more than one cycle, and the indication is intensified. |
| • | When activities appear in both FAVORABLE and ADVERSE lists, the cycles are at odds, and caution may be called for. |
DIRECTIONS shown at the bottoms of these boxes are the directions from which each influence comes. Facing or traveling toward the direction is regarded as being receptive to the influence.
EASY DAY and HARD DAY notations are in Chinese age-reckoning. At birth, one is considered to be 1 "year" old. On the first day of each Lunar New Year, everyone gains one "year" of age. This usually means that the reader's western age will be one or two years less than the Chinese reckoning. (If the reader's PHASE and ANIMAL for year of birth are known, they will be a more convenient reference.) If either the PHASE or the ANIMAL of the reader's birth-year are the same as the EASY DAY or HARD DAY notations, similar but less strong influences will apply.
